The Moon is being shy, and so there is no light. I don’t know what, but I’m fairly certain it’s not her. It doesn’t matter if she looks back at me, so I shouldn’t worry. Maybe you can find someone else.” I replied, beginning to walk past her. I smiled ruefully at her, before allowing my face to fall into a neutral expression. ![]() But, I suppose no one else needs to pity me. “Well…” ‘I wouldn’t know.’ That’s what I was going to say. I’m sure everyone who sees them is enchanted.” She pointed at my face. “They have a great deal of depth to them, and they are the most beautiful shade. “Paint my eyes… What’s so special about them?” “I would pay you for being my model, and it wouldn’t take too long. I’m a painter, and I’d like to paint your eyes.” She smiled at me. ‘Why does she want to paint my eyes? That’s a little creepy, I think.’ “Paint them?” I was slightly taken aback. “Well, even if you are, your eyes are still pretty. But, I could see colors as a kid, and my eyes were still blue. But, sometimes when she’s sad, the Moon turns blue. She stood up and leaned back on her heels. “Err… my eyes are blue, right?” I asked, slightly surprised. She looked very shiny overall, and very pretty. They were brimming with life, and I wondered if my eyes looked that way too. But they had that quality some eyes have. But it was shiny, I bet the Sun was smiling on her. I felt something, or rather, someone, bounce off of my chest. Lost in my own thoughts, I forgot to look ahead. I see different shades, but gray gets boring after a few hundred times. Some people mix colors up, but for me, there’s nothing at all. Everything is colorful, and everyone can see them. They were cute, and I bet they were colorful. I continued on my way, looking at the passing boutiques. I looked up to him, but was met with empty brightness. The heat I felt stung just a little more. I frowned, and I could feel the Sun frowning too. There were beautiful rock tiles under my feet, and I bet their colors were beautiful too. The moon is rather cold, but I see no blue…’ ‘I wonder… Will I ever see again? The Sun is so warm, but it isn’t golden. Everything around me was still a gradient of grays. I then overlooked the land I stood on, a smile still pulling at my face. ‘Hmph… Listen to me talk… What am I, some sort of romantic?’ I placed my hand over my mouth, chuckling. ![]() But, did the Moon ever notice his love? Did she assume he was simply doing his job? Did she see him cry when she completely turned away from the Earth? Could she feel his rays of love that reached her so little? What feelings did her own heart wish to share with the Sun? He watched her longingly, marveled at her changing form. He cherished the short time when they inhabited the sky together, when they shared their light with the Earth. Yet, he loved her so much that he died every night, so that she could live, and awoke each day, allowing her to rest. He who could do so much on his own he who never needed the Moon. And yet, he was so quiet in his love of the Moon. The mighty, powerful Sun that watched over his people from atop his throne, laughing heartily at the beauty of his world. I wondered if she ever thought of the Sun, the sweet Moon. Her muted light shone gently on my face, but barely anything else. She hung high in the sky, overtop my head. She hung high in the sky, veiled in some thin clouds, masking her loveliness. Everything was shrouded in a haze of darkness, except for the lonely, pale Moon. But when I looked up to the gray sky, expecting to see a plethora of twinkling lights, there was nothing. ![]() My hands trembled a bit from anticipation, and my eyes refused to stay focused. I stood silently, waiting for the symphony of the sky.
